Samsung Health Monitor Drops Support for Older Galaxy Phones

by | Nov 8, 2024 | News, Samsung Apps, Updates

Samsung Health Monitor will soon stop working on older Galaxy phones. The company has announced that the app will no longer support devices running Android 11 or older. While some features may still function, you’ll need to upgrade to Android 12 or newer to access the full experience.

Samsung drops Health Monitor support for older devices

The Samsung Health Monitor app is available for Galaxy watches that can measure your blood pressure and ECG (electrocardiogram) data. It allows users to create, record, store, and display blood pressure and ECG data, and share results with healthcare professionals. It is separate from the main Samsung health app.

A few days ago, Samsung released an update for the Samsung Health Monitor app on Galaxy devices. It rolled out version 1.3.6 with some bug fixes and performance optimizations. It appears the company is preparing for a bigger release soon. An in-app notice hints at an update to version 1.4.1 in the coming weeks.

While it’s unclear whether the next version will bring any new features or enhancements, Samsung has confirmed that it will drop support for older Android builds. Devices running Android 11, 10, or 9 will not support all Samsung Health Monitor features after this update. Samsung previously dropped support for Android 8 and 7 in August 2023.

While the official notification initially says version 1.4.1 of the app “will no longer be available on Android OS 11.0 or lower,” it later adds that “you may still use Samsung Health Monitor without upgrading Android OS”. This suggests some functions will remain available for older devices. Perhaps version 1.3.6 will continue to work as it is.

Samsung does confirm that you will”only be able to use limited services and features without further support”. It’s better to upgrade to a newer Galaxy smartphone running the latest Android version. The company now promised up to seven years of updates for flagships and six years for mid-range phones, so a 2024 model will be supported till 2031. Here’s the full list of devices enjoying maximum software support from Samsung.
