Samsung’s Galaxy S25 flagships could see a major redesign, particularly the Ultra model. Rumors say the Galaxy S25 Ultra will ditch a boxy body for curved corners. This will ensure a consistent design language across the lineup, though the company may have other reasons. One of those could be Samsung’s upcoming XR headset. The company reportedly designed its new flagships with the XR headset in mind.
Galaxy S25 may share design elements with Samsung’s XR headset
Tentatively named Galaxy XR, the upcoming Samsung XR headset will take on Apple’s Vision Pro. It may not be as expensive and feature-rich as the Apple headset, but the Korean firm is working closely with Google and Qualcomm to ensure that its first-gen headset delivers a solid XR experience. The plan might be to develop it as part of the Galaxy ecosystem, with the Galaxy S25 series at the heart of it all.
According to noted tipster Ice Universe, “some of the design and features of the Galaxy S25 take into account the Galaxy XR.” It’s unclear what they exactly mean. We guess the two products will share the same design philosophy and Samsung will offer some XR-related features on the new flagships. We don’t want to believe that the tipster means a Gear VR-like experience where the phone powers the XR headset.
Samsung has already discontinued the Gear VR, and all leaks and rumors have hinted at the Galaxy XR being a stand-alone device. It will boast its own processing and computational powers, battery, and other components. Leaks have also revealed some of its specs, with the Korean firm allegedly looking to fit the headset with a micro-OLED display from Sony or an OLEDoS screen developed in-house.
The Galaxy S25 series will run Android 15-based One UI 7.0 out of the box. The new One UI version improves task continuity for a seamless Galaxy ecosystem experience. Samsung is also working on new Galaxy AI features and experiences. Maybe the Galaxy XR will play nicely with these innovations. The XR industry certainly needs more to go mainstream. Time will tell whether Samsung can do something different.
A developer version may arrive later this year
Rumors say Samsung will launch a developer version of its first XR headset later this year. The consumer version of the Galaxy XR may arrive in early 2025. Perhaps the company plans to launch it alongside the Galaxy S25 series in January. If you plan to buy the new flagships, you might want to sign up for our mystery boxes.
