Galaxy S24 FE brings upgrades galore at a largely unchanged price
This year’s Fan Edition phone is larger than its predecessor, offering a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It is also brighter, boasting a peak brightness of 1,900 nits. Samsung doesn’t offer anti-reflective display coating but you can purchase anti-reflecting screen protectors separately. The Galaxy S24 FE already comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ for stronger display protection.
The rest of the display specs are unchanged from the S23 FE. You get 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and an under-display optical fingerprint scanner. While Samsung upgraded the front Gorilla Glass, the rear glass panel remains the same. The device still has a pretty solid build quality and durability thanks to IP68 dust and water resistance and an aluminum frame.
In earlier FE phones, Samsung offered a generation older processor. The Galaxy S24 FE changes that tradition. It gets a slightly underclocked version of the company’s latest flagship chipset, the Exynos 2400 that powered the Galaxy S24 and S24+ in some regions. The so-called Exynos 2400e has the same CPU and GPU configuration but with a peak SPU speed of 3.1GHz instead of 3.2GHz. It has a larger vapor chamber too.
Its Xclipse 940 GPU outperformed the iPhone 16 Pro Max in ray tracing tests, so Samsung doesn’t seem to have cut many corners. Speaking of which, while the camera hardware remains the same, the Galaxy S24 FE can record 8K videos at 30fps (frames per second), the same as the S24 Ultra. The S23 FE goes up to 24fps for 8K videos. The new model also supports Super HDR based on Google’s Ultra HDR format.
Bigger battery, more updates, and advanced Galaxy AI features
Since the Galaxy S24 FE is bigger than its predecessor, it packs a larger battery. Samsung offers a 4,700mAh unit here, up from 4,500mAh. The charging speed remains unchanged at 25W. The phone also supports 15W wireless charging and reverse-wireless charging for compatible Galaxy Watches and Buds.
Samsung ships the Galaxy S24 FE with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 (based on One UI 6.1.1). Like other Galaxy flagships launched this year, including the Galaxy Tab S10 series, it is eligible for security and feature updates for seven years. You will receive new features up to Android 21 and security patches at least until October 2031. The S23 FE gets four major Android updates and five years of security patches.
The new FE phone’s more powerful processor can handle more advanced AI tools than its predecessor. It supports a wide range of Galaxy AI features, including Portrait Studio, Sketch to Image, Generative Edit, Chat Assist, Live Translate, Interpreter, Note Assist, Generative Wallpapers, Browsing Assist, Instant Slo-mo, Circle to Search, Wallpaper Effects, and more. The Always On Display (AOD) wallpaper feature is missing, though.
Connectivity features remain unchanged, so the Galaxy S24 FE doesn’t get Wi-Fi 7. It supports Wi-Fi 6E along with Bluetooth v5.3, NFC, Samsung DeX, and dual stereo speakers. You can buy the Galaxy S24 FE in 128GB or 256GB storage variants, both with 8GB of RAM. They cost $649 and $709, respectively — a $20 hike from the S23 FE.
