Samsung Galaxy Battery Tip: Turn This Hidden Toggle Off

by | Jun 7, 2024 | News

Today, I’m sharing a cool trick that can save a lot of battery life on your Galaxy S24 Ultra or any other Samsung or Android phone. This feature is somewhat hidden within Google Play settings, and many people aren’t aware of it. Let’s dive in!

Background on App Install Optimization

A few years ago, Google introduced a feature called App Install Optimization to make Android apps smaller and more efficient. This feature, launched in 2021, gathers data about which parts of an app you use first. By doing so, Google can optimize the app to install, open, and run faster for everyone.

What Does It Do?

This feature collects data on which parts of an app are used first, allowing Google to optimize the installation process. It doesn’t collect your name, email, or other personal information and doesn’t look at anything outside the app. However, it does collect some data, which can slightly drain your battery.

Why Turn It Off?

Turning off this feature can help save battery life. Even if you opt out, you’ll still benefit from the crowd-sourced data collected from other users. I’ve noticed a significant increase in battery life after disabling this feature. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open Google Play Store: Go to your home screen and tap on the Play Store.
  2. Access Settings: Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner, then scroll down to ‘Settings.’
  3. Find General Settings: Under ‘General,’ scroll down to ‘App Install Optimization.’
  4. Toggle Off: Turn off ‘App Install Optimization.’

Google’s goal is to reduce battery usage during app installation, but sending data to their servers can still drain some battery. If you frequently install new apps, this feature could impact your battery life more significantly. Additionally, if you have privacy concerns, disabling this feature is a good option.

Even though Android users rely on Google services to some extent, it’s understandable if you want to minimize data sharing for privacy reasons.

I hope you found this helpful, especially if you’re a new Galaxy S24 owner. Many people aren’t aware of this feature, so I wanted to bring it to your attention.
