Samsung offers various health monitoring tools and features on its smartphones and smartwatches. Now, the company aims to go beyond your physical health and introduce mental health monitoring capabilities to Galaxy devices. The Korean behemoth is working with various leading global medical institutions and hospitals on these futuristic solutions.
Samsung is working on mental health monitoring features for Galaxy devices
According to a report by the Korean publication ETNews, Samsung is collaborating with Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Tulane School of Medicine to provide advanced mobile solutions that monitor both physical health and mental well-being. The team at Massachusetts General Hospital is working on the ability to detect and prevent depression.
Samsung reportedly collected data from 150 participants experiencing different levels of depression. The data was collected through the Galaxy Watch to establish the relationship between depression and various biometric indicators. The study aims to verify the correlation between depression and data patterns like activity levels, sleep stages, and sleep duration.
The Korean firm’s research team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston is studying the connection between resilience and lifestyle. The study monitors the health and lifestyle of patients undergoing TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) surgery using the Galaxy Watch in real-time. It aims to enhance the understanding of resilience in stress management and recovery.
The collaboration between Samsung and Tulane School of Medicine in Louisiana might help in the early detection of cardiovascular disease. It uses the Galaxy Watch and Samsung Health SDK to analyze biomarkers and identify risk factors for cardiovascular diseases at early stages. The goal is to develop algorithms that can accurately predict and prevent cardiovascular risks.
All these features are currently in development, or perhaps at the research stage. Samsung might eventually bring them to Galaxy users through its smartwatch lineup and possibly extend them to the Galaxy Ring. The company could develop a mental health index within the Samsung Health app, providing Galaxy users with valuable insights for effective medical decision-making.
