Samsung has taken an important step to make its home appliances more accessible for people with visual impairments. It added an appliance QR mode to the Sullivan Plus app, enabling easier location of its appliances. The company plans to unveil new home appliances at CES 2025 next week.
Samsung introduces new accessibility feature for its home appliances
A few days ago, Samsung unveiled its plans to expand its appliance portfolio at CES 2025. Among other things, the company is finally bringing its home heat pump system to the US, introducing two indoor and one outdoor models. The Korean firm has also announced an “AI for All” conference on the eve of the big event, which kicks off January 7 and runs through January 10.
On the sidelines of the mega electronics show, Samsung joined hands with TUAT, the creators of the AI-based visual assistant app ‘Sullivan Plus,’ to add a Home Appliance QR Mode feature. Integrated into the Sullivan Plus app, the new feature helps users easily locate QR codes attached to Samsung home appliances. People with visual impairments can use it to locate their appliances.
The Sullivan Plus app is available in over 200 countries worldwide. The AI-powered platform enhances accessibility for visually impaired users with text descriptions of images, text reading, and other features. Samsung’s Home Appliance QR Mode adds to its long list of features.
With this upgrade, Sullivan Plus users can locate Samsung home appliances using their phone’s camera. The app will detect the QR code and read out its location. It supports 32 languages and works with nearly 5,900 appliance models across 12 product categories, including refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and air purifiers released since 2022.
Samsung plans to showcase more accessibility features for its home appliances and other products at CES 2025. The mega expo will also feature an exhibition of 15 innovative startups the company nurtured.
