Samsung recently ended software update support for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 foldable smartphone. The phone has been removed from the list of devices eligible for software or security updates. Furthermore, Samsung also officially ends software update support for two more devices – the Galaxy M51 smartphone and Galaxy Tab A7 tablet.
Galaxy M51 and Galaxy Tab A7 will no longer get any updates
Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy M51 smartphone and the budget Galaxy Tab A7 will no longer get any software updates. These devices are also removed from the list of devices to get software support from the These products will no longer receive any more Android or even security updates in the future. They have reached the end of their update cycle, after getting four years of updates.
Users of the Samsung Galaxy M51 and Galaxy Tab A7 can think about upgrading to newer devices to enjoy the latest Android features and get better security. Still, both of these devices are secure and offer smooth everyday use for regular tasks. Samsung originally launched these products in 2020 with Android 10. The company upgraded these devices to Android 12.
Z Fold 2 is also no longer eligible for any software updates
As we’ve mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 foldable will also no longer get any software updates. The phone was launched in August 2020 with Android 10. The company promised to deliver three major Android OS updates for the device and four years of security upgrades. It currently runs Android 13 with One UI 5.1.1, which was delivered for it in 2023. Since last year, Samsung has only offered monthly Android security updates for the phone.
Users of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 can consider switching to the newer models. The most recent Fold series offering is the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which arrived in July with the Z Flip 6. Both of these devices currently boot Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1. However, they will be getting major OS and security updates for at least seven years. The major update for these phones will be Android 15-based One UI 7, which will arrive in early 2025.
