Samsung registers a rapid growth in automotive OLED panel shipment
According to a recent market research report, Samsung’s display division shipped 540,000 units of automotive OLED panels in the third quarter of 2024. That’s more than double the total shipments in the second quarter (220,000 units) and over 5x the Q1 shipments (100,000).
In the first three quarters of 2023, Samsung reportedly shipped 100,000, 100,000, and 200,000 units of automotive display panels globally. It shipped 200,000 units in the fourth quarter as well. The shipment volume saw a massive jump in Q3 2024 amid surging global demand. It shows Samsung’s growing influence in the automotive sector.
This also reflects the growing use of OLED tech in vehicles. Automotive OLED panels are prioritized for their vibrant colors, high contrast, and energy efficiency. They are a popular choice for modern car interiors, with even entry-level vehicles now sporting multiple screens.
Samsung Display is doing well in other areas as well. In Q3 2024, its shipments included 1.53 million tablet panels, 1.88 million notebook panels, 300,000 monitor panels, and 310,000 TV panels. However, the company noted a slight drop in OLED tablet panel shipments. This was mainly due to slower-than-expected iPad Pro sales, which recently adopted OLED technology.
The Korean firm makes RGB OLED panels for tablets, notebooks, and automotive applications. Its TV and monitor displays use the quantum-dot (QD) OLED technology. Its expertise in this industry has helped it dominate both traditional and emerging markets, including automotive and gaming displays. The company is poised to expand further as it capitalizes on the growing demand for high-quality OLED solutions.
