In a press release today, Samsung said it partnered with Google to boost the adoption of RCS messaging, which it calls a โmodern, interoperable standard for enhanced messaging.โ
Samsung made its push for RCS messaging clear when it replaced its stock Messages app in favor of Google Messages when it shipped Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 running One UI 6.1.1. Now, the South Korean tech giant is announcing it widely, highlighting its perks.
Samsung Mobileโs EVP and Head of Customer Experience, Patrick Chomet, was quoted in the press release, saying, โWeโve been working with Google on RCS for years to provide users with a seamless, connected messaging experience.โ Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google, added, โWe have worked hard for years to make RCS the standard for improved cross-platform messaging, and Samsung has been instrumental in the growing adoption of RCS.โ

For what itโs worth, RCS is miles ahead of traditional text messaging, and whatโs even more significant is that iPhones (running iOS 18 with select carriers) now support RCS messaging. This makes communication between the two rival platforms even easier and better.
Surprisingly, the press release that went out today has been archived, and the embedded videos are set to unlisted, at the time of writing. Itโs a bit strange.
