Potential Galaxy XR Patent Reveals Design Insights, Key Features

by | Nov 26, 2024 | Galaxy XR, News

Earlier this year, Apple introduced its first XR headset, the Vision Pro. In response, Samsung is preparing to release its own XR headset, tentatively called the Galaxy XR. Expected to launch next year, we might have just gotten a glimpse at its design thanks to a new patent application.

A patent application might have given us our first look at Samsung’s Galaxy XR

A newly discovered patent application from Samsung contains sketches of what appears to be an XR headset. Filed with the WIPO in May and published earlier this month, the patent documents describe some of its features, revealing how the Korean firm plans to enter the XR market.

Based on the available information, Samsung plans to focus on comfort with adjustable components. The idea is to ensure a snug fit for everyone. The design features two separate housings, one in the front and one in the back. The device offers advanced functions like AI and machine learning. The incorporation of AI would enhance the overall experience, adapting to user preferences and needs over time.

Moreover, the Galaxy XR features a speaker system and a display module that incorporates holograms and touch-sensitive interfaces that can detect touch. It might also feature a pressure sensor that can measure how much force the touch generates. The headset boasts gestures, proximity, and biometric sensors to create an interactive experience.

The patent application also hints at haptic feedback that translates actions into physical sensations through a vibrator module. Samsung will equip the device with a rechargeable battery and an advanced power management system. Of course, this is what the patent documents tell. As with all patents, this product may never see the light of day.

Rumors suggest Samsung will launch a pair of smart glasses sometime next year. It remains to be seen whether an XR headset will accompany the glasses, While patent applications don’t guarantee a market introduction, they indicate ongoing development. Stick around for more information.
