Samsung’s One UI 7 update is making waves in the tech world this week, and for good reason. The company recently rolled out the first beta build, packed with a wealth of changes, new features, and enhancements. Among these updates is a subtle yet handy improvement to lockscreen shortcuts. You can now assign actions like Scan QR Code and Mobile data to the two shortcuts at the bottom of your lockscreen, adding even more customization to your device.
One UI 7 makes lockscreen shortcuts more useful
Galaxy phones allow you to set two lockscreen shortcuts for quick access to apps or actions. By default, these shortcuts are set to Camera and Phone, but you can customize them to launch other apps. Some apps can be accessed without unlocking the device, while others require authentication. With One UI 7, Samsung expands the functionality by introducing several new actions for lockscreen shortcuts.
You can now assign these shortcuts to Sound, Airplane mode, Mobile data, Dark mode, Power saving, Scan QR code, Dolby Atmos, Live Transcribe, and Location. This gives Galaxy users more ways to personalize their One UI experience. The latest update already adds tons of other customization options. Support for additional actions in lockscreen shortcuts is a thoughtful change from Samsung. The company took its time to launch the beta but delivered meaningful enhancements.
The One UI 7 beta is currently available for the Galaxy S24 series in the US and a handful of other regions. Samsung should launch beta programs for more devices in the coming days. The Galaxy S23 series, recent foldables, and select mid-rangers should receive the beta update. Here’s the full list of devices that could get One UI 7 beta if Samsung is generous enough. The stable update will roll out in the first quarter of 2025, following the Galaxy S25 launch.
