The Android 15-based One UI 7.0 beta update is rolling out for the Galaxy S24 series in select countries. Early testers must already be having a great weekend, diving into whatever One UI 7.0 beta has to offer. We can’t get enough of everything new with the update.
It would be fair to say that the One UI 7.0 beta is on par with our expectations. There are minor tweaks in every section of the new software, which is still in the beta build. This means more features are coming — or at least, they’re in the pipeline for either One UI 7.0 or One UI 7.1. Now, let’s talk about something small yet significant. It changes how we launch apps in folders in One UI 7.0 beta.
One UI 7.0 beta lets you launch apps directly from the folder
When you create a folder on the homescreen, let’s say one for Social Media, where you put apps like Facebook, X, Instagram, Bluesky, and more. Or when you take a more traditional approach by bundling all the Google apps into one folder, it’s the same concept.
When you tap on the small icons in a folder that can show up to nine apps at once, you can directly launch any of these apps by tapping on their icons in One UI 7.0 beta. While this may seem like a small update, I feel this is exactly what I expect when people discuss user experience (UX).
For those wondering what happens when you add more than nine apps to a folder, can you launch ten or more apps at once? Jeff has an answer. Spoiler: That doesn’t happen. Instead, you’ll see three dots appear, which open the folder, taking you back to the traditional layout.
That said, the stable version of One UI 7.0 for eligible devices is still on its way. It’s expected to arrive around the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22.
