We’re winding down our day at the Samsung Developer Conference for 2024 and it’s been a crazy ride. After a lackluster keynote for mobile enthusiasts, we discovered an early version of One UI 7.0 running on a demo device at the show. Earlier, we detailed some key changes in One UI 7.0 – notifications and quick settings, new icons, and revamped camera UI.
Many of you were clamoring for a glimpse of the animations, blur, and general smoothness of the new software. To satiate those interested, we took some live video from the show floor to demonstrate the overall performance. Overall, our impressions of the new software were very positive. The animations are smooth, especially considering this is an early build. Samsung is guaranteed to make improvements in this area before the beta launches later in 2024.
Keep in mind that this is likely a very early version of One UI 7.0 and many of the features expected are not present. One of the key features we did not spot, is the new “Dynamic Island” or live activities feature. This feature is rumored to imitate the Dynamic Island on iPhone, but live entirely in the status bar on One UI 7.0. These is one new feature to note, called Galaxy Avatar. This feature, spotted by our colleagues at SamMobile, appears to be revamp of Samsung’s current AR Emoji feature.
Many of the menus inside this early build of One UI 7.0 look exactly like One UI 6.1.1, so we can expect massive changes before the beta version lands. Samsung mentioned that the beta will be available before the end of the year, but stopped short of announcing a specific date. This certainly suggests that we might wait a lot longer than we hoped.
The stable version of One UI 7.0 will launch in January 2025 with the Galaxy S25 series. What do you think of Samsung’s upcoming mobile OS? Let us know over on X! If you have any questions, we are happy to answer as many as we can.
