Samsung began rolling out the October security patch earlier this month. Several Galaxy devices have already received the update, while others are still awaiting it. Recently, the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy A14 5G joined the list of devices receiving the October update. Devices that haven’t yet received the latest security patch will get it soon.
Galaxy S21 series and more devices get the October update
Samsung has released the October security update for the Galaxy S21 series in the US. It is currently rolling out for carrier-locked models on Verizon’s network. The company will gradually expand this update to other variants in the US and beyond. The Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra are picking up the firmware version G99*USQSDGXJ2 with the latest update.
The Korean firm’s foldable duo from 2021, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, are initially receiving the October security patch in select South American countries. A broader rollout should begin soon, including the US units. The new firmware version for the Fold model is F926BXXS9IXJ1, while the Flip model has firmware version F711BXXSAIXJ1.
Additionally, Samsung has released the October update for Galaxy A14 5G users in the US. Like the Galaxy S21 flagships, this budget phone is also initially picking up the new security patch on carrier-locked units on Verizon’s network. The updated firmware build number for the device is A146USQS9DXI2. A wider release of this update should be right around the corner.
These devices aren’t getting anything more than this month’s security fixes. Samsung’s October Security Maintenance Release (SMR) addresses 42 vulnerabilities, including seven identified as critical. Five critical flaws specifically affected Galaxy devices, potentially allowing remote access to threat actors. Samsung will soon push these patches to other eligible Galaxy phones and tablets.
