by | Oct 9, 2024 | Galaxy S, News, Updates

A few days ago, Samsung released the September security patch to the Galaxy S24 FE in the US. However, in other markets, the company provided the October update. Now, it is rolling out the newer security patch for the latest Fan Edition phone stateside. The October patch should gradually expand to other Galaxy devices globally.

Galaxy S24 FE grabs the October update in the US

Earlier this week, Samsung released the October security patch for the Galaxy S24 FE in India, Europe, and Africa. At that time, the company did not disclose specific details about the update, aka Security Maintenance Release (SMR). It later shared the content, revealing that the update patches 42 vulnerabilities. The Korean firm has now rolled out the update in the US.

The US versions of the Galaxy S24 FE are receiving the latest security patch with the firmware build numbers S721USQS2AXI5 (carrier-locked) and S721U1UES2AXI5 (unlocked). This update strictly focuses on security improvements, so users should not expect any new features or changes after installation. As said earlier, the October SMR addresses 42 vulnerabilities, with seven of them marked as critical patches.

Among the critical patches are two Android OS vulnerabilities and five One UI vulnerabilities. These critical flaws potentially allow threat actors to gain remote access to affected Galaxy devices. So, you should install the latest update on your Galaxy S24 FE as soon as you can. Since the phone is relatively new on the market, feature updates may not arrive anytime soon.

However, Samsung is preparing the Android 15-based One UI 7 update for Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S24 FE users may not get the beta version but the stable build should be available in the early weeks of next year. We will let you know when it arrives. In the meantime, install the October security patch for enhanced security of your phone. You can check for updates from the Settings app.
