October update is rolling out to Galaxy S22 and more devices in the US
A few days ago, Samsung released the October update for the Galaxy S22 series in Europe and other regions. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is now available for the US versions. Both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the 2022 flagship trio are receiving the update stateside. The new firmware build numbers are S90*USQS6EXJ3 and S90*U1UES6EXJ1, respectively.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 are also widely receiving the October security update in the US. The Fold model is picking up the new SMR with the build numbers F936USQS6GXIC and F936U1UES6GXIC. Those for the Flip are F721USQS6GXIC and F721U1UES6GXIC. For the Galaxy S21 FE, the rollout seems to be limited to carrier-locked units. It’s getting the build number G990USQSDGXJ4.
The Galaxy A54 is another Samsung phone to recently join the October 2024 SMR party in the US. The new build numbers for this premium mid-range smartphone are A546USQS9CXI5 and A546U1UES9CXI3. Regardless of the build number, the update carries the same changelog for all of these devices. Samsung is pushing nothing more than this month’s security fixes to these phones.
The October SMR contains over 40 vulnerability patches, including at least seven critical fixes. It’s been a while since we’ve seen this many critical vulnerabilities patched in a single month. You should install the update as soon as possible to safeguard your Galaxy phone from potential security attacks. You can check for new security updates from Settings > Software update > Download and install.
