While this may have flown under the radar for some, it was a big deal for the nostalgic smartwatch community. Pebble’s original founder, Eric Migicovsky, had already hinted at a comeback, and now the company is teasing a major announcement for March 18. An email sent to those who signed up for updates (via 9to5Google) reads: “Time to get excited! Set your alarm for March 18 (tomorrow!) at 9am PDT – 12 noon EDT – 4pm GMT – 9:30pm IST – Midnight CST – 1am JST.”
A countdown timer is now live on the RePebble Store website. That’s further fueling speculation that a new Pebble smartwatch might be revealed. While details are scarce, past statements from Migicovsky suggest that the upcoming watch will stay true to Pebble’s original formula. It will likely come featuring an always-on e-paper display, long battery life, and tactile buttons for navigation.
In an earlier update, he cautioned fans not to expect groundbreaking new features but instead a return to the core experience that made Pebble so beloved. “It’s going to be a Pebble, almost exactly as you remember it,” he wrote.
If the countdown leads to a new hardware announcement, it would mark Pebble’s first real comeback attempt since its acquisition by Fitbit in 2016. Whether we’re looking at an updated Pebble 2 or something entirely new remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure. The nostalgia is real, and we don’t have to wait much longer to see what’s next.
