When was the last time you heard of a product or feature announcement that raised eyebrows—or, better yet, sparked a controversy? Something like that happened when Microsoft announced Recall, an AI search feature. It offers something akin to a photographic memory, but for your already smart laptops.
Fortunately, it isn’t being rolled out to everyone. So if you’re skeptical of the ‘witch’ called AI, Microsoft won’t force it on you. However, those eager to try it and see how it performs must meet a few requirements. You’ll need a Snapdragon Copilot+ PC, like the Galaxy Book 4 Edge, and you’ll need to be part of the Windows Insider Program to try out the Recall feature. Microsoft also confirmed plans to release a preview for Intel- and AMD-based Copilot+ PCs soon, including models like the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360.
Galaxy Book 4 Edge users can now try Microsoft Recall
If you recall have a good memory, Microsoft announced the Recall AI feature a while ago. Microsoft has been very late with the rollout of Recall, the good news is that it’s finally here. It was earlier expected in June, which later shifted to October release. Even now, it only supports Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs, making others wait more.
So now, if you own a Galaxy Book 4 Edge, you can go on and try out the Recall feature, if you want to. Be sure to join the Windows Insider Program and install the latest Windows 11 Preview Build 26120.2415 (KB5046723).
The Recall feature captures screenshots of everything you do on your laptop. Which helps it quickly analyze and respond to queries related to previously viewed content. Although Microsoft claims that all data is kept on the device, some cybersecurity experts have raised concerns.
My two cents: If you plan to make Recall a part of your productivity but can keep its eyes off any confidential work, you should definitely do it. Generative AI increases productivity, which even a Nielsen Norman Group report notes.
