Samsung is gearing up to launch its next-gen budget smartphones, the Galaxy A16 and A16 5G. While a launch date is still missing, key specs for these devices have already been revealed through leaks. We also have alleged prices for the European region — the phones may retail for around $200. Now, a more detailed leak has surfaced, leaving nothing to the imagination.
Major leak bares it all for the Galaxy A16 and A16 5G
Over the past few days, we have come across several leaks about the Galaxy A16 series. The two models are almost identical, differing mainly in the processor and 5G connectivity. A premature retail listing spotted by SamInsider reveals another intriguing difference. The Galaxy A16 5G will allegedly support up to 1.5TB of expandable storage via microSD card. That’s a notable upgrade from its predecessor’s limit of 1TB.
Interestingly, the Galaxy A16 (4G) doesn’t get the same expansion, so it continues to support up to 1TB microSD cards. The leak shows both models with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. However, Samsung might also offer 6GB RAM and 256GB storage in some variants. The 4G model is said to be powered by MediaTek’s Helio G99 chipset, while the 5G model comes in Exynos 1330 and Dimensity 6300+ flavors.
The Galaxy A16 series will also boast a larger display than its predecessor, moving up to 6.7 inches from 6.5 inches. Both models get a Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the phones will be slimmer, with a thickness of 7.9mm compared to the previous model’s 8.4mm. The Galaxy A16 and A16 5G will be the first phones in the lineup to boast an IP54 rating, making them resistant to dust and water splashes.
In terms of cameras, both devices feature a 50MP main sensor, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro camera on the back. For selfies, you get a 13MP front-facing camera. The devices pack a 5,000mAh battery and support 25W charging. Other key features include GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, a USB Type-C port, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The phones support dual SIM in some regions and weigh 200 grams.
Longs software update support on the cards
The Galaxy A16 and A16 5G may get a long software update support. Leaks say Samsung will provide six years of major Android OS and security updates for the duo. That’s a longer support than 2023 flagships, including the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 5 — both get four major OS updates and five years of security patches. 2024 flagships get updates for seven years, including the Galaxy S24 FE. Stay tuned for the Galaxy A16 launch.
