Samsung is preparing to unveil its next Ultra flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, in early 2025. It will arrive with several hardware and software upgrades. However, the main camera may remain unchanged, as the device is expected to feature the same 200MP sensor used in the S24 Ultra. A recent leak confirmed its main camera specs ahead of the official launch.
Leaked specs suggest Galaxy S25 Ultra reuses S24 Ultra’s main camera
The US version of the Galaxy S25 Ultra (SM-S938U) recently surfaced on the Camera FV-5 database, revealing key specs. The listing mentions a 12.5MP camera resolution and a pixel size of 2.4μ, hinting at 4×4 pixel binding. In simpler words, the default resolution is achieved by merging 16 neighboring pixels, which means an original pixel size of 0.6μ.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 200MP ISOCELL sensor boasts the same specs. This also means that the new phone will support 2×2 pixel binding, merging 4 neighboring pixels to make 1.2μ pixels and capture 50MP photos. Other specs, including a 23mm focal length and an f/1.7 aperture are unchanged too.
This suggests the Galaxy S25 Ultra uses the same main camera as its predecessor. However, Samsung may have improved the sensor with some optimizations. Improved software processing and AI tools could help enhance the image quality. After all, powerful hardware isn’t everything for quality photos and videos. Software plays a big role.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra may feature an unchanged 50MP 5x zoom camera and 10MP 3x zoom camera as well. The ultrawide camera could get a new sensor, though. Rumors have hinted at a 50MP unit replacing the aging 12MP sensor. If history is any indication, the Galaxy S25 and S25+ should also get the upgraded ultrawide camera.
