Samsung has released the January security patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. The 2024 foldable lineup joins the Galaxy S24 series in the company’s latest security update party. These devices are receiving the update in several markets worldwide, including the US.
Galaxy S24, Fold 6 and Flip 6 grab the January update in the US
A few days ago, Samsung rolled out the January security patch, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), to the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra in its home country, South Korea — users who participated in the One UI 7.0 beta program received it with Beta 3. The company has since expanded the update to the US and other regions. It recently released the new SMR for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 as well.
The January update for the US Galaxy S24 units comes with the build version AXL2 (the last four digits of the firmware version) — it’s AXL1 in Korea. As of this writing, Samsung seems to be updating the carrier-locked variants. It should soon cover unlocked models too. The update brings nothing more than the 50-odd security fixes from Samsung and Google.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is also initially receiving the January patch on carrier-locked units in the US. The new build number for the device is AXLF. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, meanwhile, is picking up this update across carrier-locked and unlocked models. Its January SMR also bears the build number AXLF. The changelog remains the same for both foldables: The security of your device has been improved.
These foldables are also receiving the January update in other markets like Korea. Samsung will soon make the update global and cover more Galaxy phones and tablets. Meanwhile, it is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S25 series on January 22. The new flagships will run One UI 7.0 out of the box.
