One UI 7 is shaping up to be Samsung’s most significant software update yet, but it might also be the most delayed. As we approach the year’s end, the update remains in its early beta stages. The stable release is still far off, with a global rollout unlikely to start until February next year.
You’ll have to wait longer for the One UI 7 update
Last year, Samsung began One UI 6 beta testing in mid-August and released the stable build in late October. It is nowhere near this timeline this year. The first official mention of One UI 7 came during the company’s annual developer conference in October, but it wasn’t the update fans were hoping for. Samsung announced that the new version will debut with the Galaxy S25 series, delaying its release until 2025 — a full three months behind the previous schedule.
The beta programs finally launched earlier this month, but Samsung seemingly doesn’t plan to extend those beyond the Galaxy S24 series. Recent reports suggest the Galaxy S23 ad the likes will not receive beta updates. Users must wait until the stable, which begins after the Galaxy S25 launch.
The new flagships look set to go official on January 22, 2025. However, users of older Galaxy devices might have to wait a few more weeks for One UI 7. While the Galaxy S24 series could receive the update by the end of January or in early February, a widespread rollout may not begin until mid-February. Rumors suggest Samsung will open general sales for the Galaxy S25 series on February 7.
Given the extensive list of Galaxy phones and tablets eligible for the Android 15-based One UI 7 update, Samsung might still be rolling it out by the time Google releases Android 16. The new Android version will arrive in June. Hopefully, this delay is a one-time occurrence caused by the substantial UI changes Samsung made to its custom software. With any luck, the One UI 8 update will follow a more timely schedule. Stick around for more.
