Last year, Google merged its Nearby Share with Samsungโs Quick Share to make Quick Share the default file sharing system on Android phones. Later in the year, the company implemented support for sharing via QR code. Now, Google is reportedly making sharing files via QR code even easier, eliminating the need to tap a button to manually request a QR code before sharing.
Quick Share to get improved QR code scanning
As per a report from Android Authority, Google is testing a new Quick Share change, using which you can directly share via QR code. In the current version, you have to request a QR code on your own by tapping a button. After implementing this new feature, the system will set QR code sharing as the default option.
The QR code automatically appears directly on the Quick Share screen, located just below the nearby devices section. To make the UI fit, Google has reduced the size of the Quick Share label, and this is a better usage of space. The old layout was a lot of waste of space, while the new layout makes things more convenient and accessible.
Android Authority spotted this change in the Google Play Services 25.10.31 beta. The new version removed the need to use a button to generate the QR code when sharing files via Quick Share. However, the feature is still a work in progress. The publication enabled it via APK teardown. Itโs unclear when Google might roll out this change publicly.
Since merging Nearby Share and Quick Share, Google has been trying to improve the service with regular feature updates and UI refinements. QR code-based sharing is one of the major new additions recently. It was a major improvement in ease of use, and we canโt wait for the upcoming enhancement where QR code sharing becomes the default option.
