Gemini has come a long way since it first launched as Bard. Thanks to the growing partnership between Samsung and Google, it’s now deeply integrated into the latest Galaxy phones. Now, it looks like the Gemini app is getting a small refresh, which could bring a more polished interface.
Gemini may replace the “Sources and related content” section with a “Sources” chip
Right now, when you Gemini something, it provides a detailed answer based on the topic. Below the response on Gemini, there’s a horizontally scrollable list showing sources and related content. It works well for now, but ChatGPT handles this better. Unlike Gemini, ChatGPT has a “Sources” chip under the message. Tapping on which brings up a vertical list of links, which is easier to read.
It looks like Gemini is working on something similar, possibly taking inspiration from ChatGPT’s way of displaying sources. And there’s nothing wrong with that. According to Android Authority, Google app v16.12.39.sa.arm64 replaces the “Sources and related content” section with a pill-shaped “Sources” button. For comparison, AssembleDebug has shared screenshots showing the changes. You can see these screenshots and notice the changes.
It’s a relatively minor tweak, but a vertical scroller feels more polished. In fact, Perplexity also presents sources in a vertical list, suggesting that more users prefer this format. Design updates like these are often influenced by internal surveys and feedback from the product team, so it makes sense for Gemini to follow a similar approach.
That said, we’ll keep you in the loop as more updates roll out. There’s no set timeline for when these changes will reach everyone, but we expect them to land soon. The report also mentions that more refinements could come before the wider release, so we’ll see if Google has a few more tweaks in store.
