Galaxy Z Fold 6 Leads Foldable Camera Rankings, but is it Accurate?

by | Aug 5, 2024 | Galaxy Z, News

The Galaxy Z Fold 6‘s cameras have been branded as the best in the foldable category. DxOMark, an independent quality evaluation firm, awarded 133 points to its camera performance, the highest any foldable has achieved yet. The Samsung phone shared the top ranking with Google’s first-gen Pixel Fold. The rankings may not accurately reflect the current foldable market though, as the firm hasn’t tested many new models.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 has the best camera among foldables, DxOMark finds

DxOMark is a popular independent smartphone reviewer. The firm has a standard test suite to evaluate the camera, audio, display, and battery performance. A standardized system ensures fair testing. However, its Galaxy Z Fold 6 camera review may not tell the full story. No, we aren’t saying that the device doesn’t deserve 133 points. That’s only as good as the Pixel 7a and worse than the Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra.

However, branding it the best foldable camera without testing competing products is a bit misleading. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has decent cameras, but many other reviews have shown it performs worse than the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and Honor Magic V3. DxOMark hasn’t tested the latter two. The firm has only tested the below 12 foldables. As such, don’t blindly believe there isn’t a foldable out there with better cameras than the new Samsung foldable.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is exposed when pitted against non-folding phones. Its score of 133 is only good enough for a 45th global ranking. Many phones less than half its cost have scored better in DxoMark’s camera evaluation. This highlights Samsung’s negligence when it comes to its foldable cameras. It hasn’t been treating the Z series the same as the S series in the camera department, causing this performance gap.

The new foldable delivered worse results than the previous three Ultra flagships, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, S23 Ultra, and S22 Ultra. That isn’t very pleasing considering the premium price you pay for the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Hopefully, Samsung will address this disparity sooner rather than later. No one should mind a massive camera overhaul on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 next year. They are still a year away, so a lot of lime for rumors.
