Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and More Get November Security Update

by | Nov 20, 2024 | Galaxy A, Galaxy Z, News, Updates

Samsung is rapidly pushing the November security patch to Galaxy devices. After recently updating the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 to the latest build, it released the patch for the fifth-gen foldables. The Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A23 accompany the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 to the November update party.

November update rolls out to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and more devices

Samsung is currently rolling out the November update to the Korean versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5. The devices are receiving the latest security fixes with the firmware build numbers F946NKSU4DXK8 and F731NKSU4DXK8, respectively. The update weighs over 500MB and brings more than this month’s security patch.

According to the official changelog, the two foldables are picking up system stability improvements alongside the November SMR (Security Maintenance Release). Samsung has already confirmed that the latest SMR patches over 50 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family. Most of these are Android OS patches from Google.

The build numbers also confirm a bootloader update for both models (the fifth digit from last changed from 3 to 4 — see our full firmware guide for more information). This means you cannot roll back to the previous firmware. More importantly, this confirms changes to security policies, likely due to Auto Blocker enhancements.

Samsung has been rolling out USB restrictions to Auto Blocker with the November update. When set to Maximum restrictions, your phone’s USB port cannot read any connections apart from charging. The company did mention this in the changelog in other markets but the Korean changelogs do not reflect this important security upgrade.

The Galaxy S53 and Galaxy A23 are also receiving Samsung’s latest security fixes, with the rollout beginning in the US. Carrier-locked units on Verizon are picking up this update. Samsung should soon roll out the November SMR for all these devices globally. It is also expected to begin One UI 7.0 beta testing later this month.
