A few days ago, OnLeaks, aka Steve H. McFly (via Android Headlines), shared renders of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7. Based on the report, it was expected to feature a 3.6-inch cover display alongside a 6.8-inch inner display. Until now, rumors suggested that Samsung wouldn’t make any major design changes for its next clamshell foldable.
Updated Galaxy Z Flip 7 renders show a major redesign
However, OnLeaks has now confirmed that Samsung is making a significant redesign to the front cover display. Instead of using the previously reported folder-type design, the company has decided to extend the cover display further, integrating both rear cameras inside the screen itself. This means the entire front cover is now a display, similar to some competing flip phones in the market. The shift allows for a larger, more immersive external screen, bumping the size up to approximately 4 inches. We’ll include a side-by-side of the old and updated Galaxy Z Flip 7 renders so you can see the difference.
This redesign should make the cover screen easier to use, giving people more room to interact with widgets, notifications, and quick replies. You likely won’t need to flip the phone open for a few basic tasks. Plus, moving the cameras inside the display could make the Galaxy Z Flip 7 look sleeker and more modern. The main screen stays the same at 6.8 inches, but these tweaks make the phone feel more polished and future-ready. Personally, I feel that this is a long-overdue redesign. Hopefully, these updated renders should make to the final Galaxy Z Flip 7 unveiling.
With Samsung’s new foldables launching sooner, it’ll be interesting to see if this change improves the user experience and gives the Galaxy Z Flip 7 a leg up on the competition. Additionally, Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 are fully set to debut during the second Unpacked, which typically takes place in July.
