Samsung’s upcoming foldables, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7, have received China’s 3C certification. Both devices were tested with a 25W charger, suggesting no upgrade in charging speeds. While this doesn’t rule out the possibility of faster charging, the chances appear slim.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 may not get faster charging speeds
According to the certification documents spotted by XpertPick, the Chinese certification agency tested the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (SM-F9660) and Galaxy Z Flip 7 (SM-F7660) using Samsung’s EP-TA800 charger. This charger supports a maximum power output of 25W (9V/2.77A).
As mentioned above, this doesn’t necessarily mean the upcoming foldables won’t charge any faster. However, the charging speed mentioned in 3C documents is often final. In that case, this would be the sixth consecutive generation of Galaxy foldables with no charging upgrade. Samsung jumped from 15W to 25W charging with the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in 2020.
interestingly, there have been rumors about Samsung upgrading the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to 45W charging this year. Even recent mid-range phones support 45W charging, so it makes no sense for the most expensive Galaxy to charge slower. But as things stand, we have no proof that the Fold 7 will get a charging speed boost.
Leaks suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 will feature larger screens and batteries. The Flip 7 is said to house a 4,300mAh battery, up from the 4,000mAh unit found in the Flip 6. It may also feature a 6.85-inch foldable screen and a 4-inch cover display, offering a larger viewing area than its predecessor. The Fold 7 is rumored to retain the 4,400mAh battery of its predecessor but might upgrade to a 6.5-inch cover screen and an 8.2-inch foldable display.
Samsung typically unveils its foldables in July or August, and these certifications indicate that the company is on track for its usual launch timeline. As more leaks and official details emerge, it will be interesting to see if Samsung introduces any surprises with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Stay tuned for further updates.
