Galaxy Watch Could Get Samsung’s All-Solid-State Battery In 2026

by | Jan 12, 2025 | Galaxy Watch, News

Samsung’s Electro-Mechanics division head, Chang Duckhyun, recently announced that the company plans to unveil a prototype of its ultra-compact all-solid-state battery by the end of this year. According to Korea Economic Daily, Samsung plans to kick off mass production of the battery in 2026.

Before we proceed, here’s a quick rundown on what makes the ultra-compact all-solid-state battery stand out. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, which rely on liquid electrolytes to help ions move between the anode and cathode, solid-state batteries use a solid electrolyte. This not only makes them safer but also boosts efficiency.

Samsung might bring all-solid-state battery to 2026’s Galaxy Watch line

Last year, Samsung announced it was developing an all-solid-state battery — a next-gen tech designed with future wearable devices in mind. As mentioned, it promises to pack a higher energy density than traditional lithium-ion batteries. Samsung reportedly provided prototypes to select customers for evaluation, meaning wearables will likely get the first taste of this tech, with smartphones following later.

Recent reports suggest the all-solid-state battery could debut in the Galaxy Watch in 2026. In the meantime, the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 will stick with the tried-and-true lithium-ion battery. This cutting-edge battery technology will deliver improved power, reliability, and energy efficiency, leading to longer battery life and better overall performance.

Just a thought, but Samsung Electro-Mechanics could potentially supply these all-solid-state batteries to Apple for its Watches as well. So, in simple terms, the 2026 Galaxy Watch could go head-to-head with the 2026 Apple Watch when it comes to battery performance.
