Galaxy Watch 8 gets Small Battery Boost — Faster Charging too, Samsung?

by | Apr 1, 2025 | Galaxy Watch, News

It’s no surprise that Samsung will launch new smartwatches later this year. It has two Galaxy Watch 8 models in the pipeline, including a Classic variant that could feature a physical rotating bezel. Firmware development for the upcoming wearables is already underway, and now, regulatory agencies have begun certifying the products. Newly spotted certification listings reveal the base model’s battery capacity.

Galaxy Watch 8 batteries certified as Samsung ramps up development

Korean regulatory agency Safety Korea recently certified two battery packs manufactured by Samsung. The units bear the model numbers EB-BL330ABY and EB-BL505ABY. If you are familiar with Samsung’s model number system, it’s clear that these batteries are meant for the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic. The former carries the identifiers SM-L320, SM-L325, SM-L330, and SM-L335, while the latter has model numbers SM-L500 and SM-L505.

While Saftey Korea revealed no additional information about these batteries, one of those (EB-BL330ABY) also appeared on the TUV Rheinland database, confirming its capacity. This Galaxy Watch 8 battery has a typical capacity of 435mAh. That’s a slightly larger battery than the 44mm Galaxy Watch 7’s 425mAh unit.

Note that SM-L330 and SM-L335 are the model numbers for the Bluetooth and LTE versions of the 44mm (or the bigger size) Galaxy Watch 8. SM-L320 and SM-L325 are the identifiers for the smaller version, possibly featuring a 40mm dial. It is likely to pack a 300mAh or a slightly larger battery. There’s no word on the charging speed yet.

The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic may come in a single size, as there are only two known model numbers: SM-L500 for the Bluetooth version and SM-L505 for the LTE version. If Samsung offers a physical rotating bezel, expect the battery size to take a hit. Otherwise, it could go upwards of 500mAh. More details should be available closer to the launch. Samsung should unveil these wearables alongside the new foldables sometime in July.
