UPDATE (04/14/2025): After an initial release in South Korea, this 900MB update is available for US Galaxy Watch 7 units with the same build version (AYCD). The changelog remains the same too, including the March security patch. However, for the Watch Ultra, the update size is almost half that of Korea (around 495MB). It’s unclear why the Korean version is getting a much bigger update. A global rollout may be already underway.

As Samsung pushes forward with the One UI 7 rollout for Galaxy smartphones and tablets, users of its latest smartwatches also have something to cheer about. The Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra are receiving a substantial 900MB software update — pretty large for a wearable. While the size hints at something significant, Samsung hasn’t shared detailed information on what the update actually includes.

Samsung pushes a major new software update to the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra

As of this writing, the latest update for Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra is available in South Korea.  Both models are picking up the firmware build version AYCD, with the OTA packages weighing over 900MB. To be precise, the update weighs 925MB for the LTE variant of the 40mm Galaxy Watch 7. The Watch Ultra, which comes in a single size (47mm) with LTE connectivity, is getting a 945MB update.

Despite such massive sizes, Samsung’s official changelog only mentions security fixes and stability improvements. The 2024 Galaxy Watch lineup is getting the March 2025 security patch and some system optimizations for smoother and more reliable performance. There could be more to the story, but it isn’t immediately clear because of Samsung’s seemingly incomplete release notes.

The Korean firm should soon roll out this update in other regions. Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra users in the US and the rest of the world can expect to receive the latest software releases in the coming weeks. You can always check for updates from the Settings app on your watch or the Watch settings menu on the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. Go to Watch software update and tap Download and install.

The One UI 7 update for Galaxy smartphones and tablets will also gradually expand to more markets. It’s currently available for the Galaxy S24, Fold 6, Flip 6, and Fold SE in South Korea. The US rollout is expected to begin on April 10.
