Galaxy Users Could Soon Share Their Live Location from Settings

by | Oct 3, 2024 | News

Galaxy users might soon be able to share the live location of their devices directly from settings. Google is currently working on this handy new feature for Android phones. Some users have already received it through an update for the Google Play Services app but a wider rollout hasn’t begun yet. It should reach more users in the coming weeks.

Your Galaxy phone may soon let you share your location from Settings

If you want to share your live location with others via your Galaxy phone, there are several ways to do it. Google Maps offers a convenient tool to share your location, and so do some third-party messaging apps such as WhatsApp. Google is developing a way to let Android users share their location directly from the Settings app.

App researcher AssembleDebug discovered the new feature. An update for the Google Play Services app added a new location-sharing control to Settings, under Google > All Services. The Google Location Sharing menu offers a toggle to turn “Use Location Sharing” on or off. When enabled, you get a link to your current location.

You can copy the link and share it with others via any means. The recipient can use the link to track your live location in Google Maps. Disabling this toggle will immediately end location sharing, though people you charged the link with can still see your last known location before you turned it off. You can always see who has access to your location.

This feature is probably still under development, so it may not be available to many Galaxy users. We haven’t received it on any of our phones despite running the latest version of Google Play Services. Hopefully, Google will soon start a wide rollout. Go to  Settings > Google > All Services > Google Location Sharing to manage your location-sharing settings.
