Word has been out for a while that Samsung will reduce its foldable shipments in 2025. While the company remains the dominant player in the foldable market, its market share has seen a notable dip. That said, scaling back on shipments doesn’t mean Samsung is putting all its eggs in one basket. Far from it, the company has an exciting slate of new foldables lined up for 2025. This includes the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip FE, and even a tri-fold smartphone that’s set to make its debut.
Galaxy tri-fold smartphone could be coming in 2025 with modest production numbers
According to a report from the Korean outlet Sisajournal, Samsung is indeed gearing up to unveil its Galaxy tri-fold smartphone. However, the company is facing a few hurdles along the way. The upcoming Galaxy tri-fold is expected to feature a G-shaped design, with the outer screens folding inward — quite a departure from the Huawei Mate XT, which folds in both directions. This design could enhance durability. An insider also revealed to the publication that the phone will boast three display panels, along with two internal and two external hinges, all supported by improved hardware.
If reports from Korean sources are anything to go by, Samsung may produce fewer than 300,000 units of its Galaxy tri-fold. Samsung plans to have these shipments ready by the second half of the year. This is around which, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 could launch. Now, you might be wondering, what’s the deal with the modest 300,000-unit production? Well, it suggests that Samsung might not be placing all its bets on the Galaxy tri-fold. Despite cutting back on foldable shipments overall, Samsung still plans to ship 3 million units of the Z Flip 7 and over 2 million units of the Z Fold 7.
The smaller expected shipment target also likely means a higher price tag, which isn’t exactly a surprise. After all, the Huawei Mate XT comes at CNY 19,999 (roughly $2,729). While the exact details haven’t been revealed yet, it’s safe to say Galaxy tri-fold could come with a hefty price. But honestly, we wouldn’t mind shelling out the cash to see how it stacks up.
