Samsung’s October update contains important security fixes, some of which are being actively exploited in the wild. The company has already updated dozens of Galaxy smartphones and tablets to the latest security patch. The remaining eligible devices are also quickly picking up the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release), with the Galaxy Tab S8 recently joining the party.
October security update rolling out to the Galaxy Tab S8 series
The Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8+, and Tab S8 Ultra are receiving the October update globally, including in the US. The new update comes with the firmware build number CXJ7 (last four characters). The build number may vary in some markets but the changelog is unlikely to change. The update is all about this month’s security fixes. There aren’t any new features or enhancements in tow.
Samsung’s updated security bulletin says the October SMR contains 42 vulnerability patches, at least seven of which are critical vulnerabilities. Google’s security team recently revealed that threat actors are actively exploiting a flaw in some Exynos processors as part of a chain attack. This poses a series threat to the affected devices, which include the Galaxy S20, S10, Note 10, and Watch 5.
As said earlier, the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup is picking up this update globally. It should soon reach all eligible units. If you are using a Tab S8 model, watch out for an update in the coming days if you haven’t already installed it. As usual, you can always check for updates from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. You can check for updates anytime.
These tablets are eligible for four major Android OS updates. Debuted with Android 12, Samsung will update them till Android 16. The company is currently readying Android 15-based One UI 7.0 with plans to start public beta next month. The Galaxy Tab S8 series is unlikely to receive the beta update, though the stable build should arrive within the first few months of 2025.
