Galaxy S25 Ultra: Samsung’s Play to Outclass iPhone 16 Pro Max

Samsung is rethinking its business strategy for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, zeroing in on iPhones rather than competing Android flagships from other brands. The company doesn’t see Chinese firms as its main rivals, at least not in the Ultra flagship segment. It aims to mirror the premium appeal of iPhones and is going the extra mile to ensure the Galaxy S25 Ultra surpasses the iPhone 16 Pro Max in every aspect.

Samsung positions the Galaxy S25 Ultra against the latest iPhone

For the past several years, Samsung has been the world’s largest smartphone company. It makes phones at every price point and sells them globally. However, when it comes to the premium segment, Apple is an undisputed king. Its iPhones outsell Galaxy flagships by a huge margin. Even in Samsung’s home country, South Korea, iPhones dominate the premium segment, particularly among the younger demographic.

Samsung aims to tackle this issue by improving the Galaxy flagship’s appeal. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is already shaping up to be a worthy competitor to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. According to leaks, it is thinner and lighter than the iPhone and sports narrower bezels for a more premium front design. Its slightly curved corners also look sleeker than the iPhone, while the built-in S Pen offers enhanced productivity.

The Galaxy packs beefier specs as well. It has two zoom cameras (3x and 5x), a higher-resolution main camera and ultrawide lens, a bigger battery, faster charging, and probably a better display. One UI 7.1, which will be available out of the box on the S25 Ultra, is also said to offer a smoother experience than iOS 18. Samsung’s Android-based custom software is already more customizable and feature-rich than Apple’s iOS.

Moreover, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset is shaping up to be more powerful than the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s A18 Pro. All things considered, the new Samsung flagship is poised to outshine the iPhone 16 Pro Max on every front. The firm doesn’t even want to look at any other brand as its competitor — the sales of all Chinese Ultra flagships combined are usually less than Samsung’s Ultra models. Time will tell if it can win back the hearts of South Korea’s younger generation with the S25 Ultra.
