Galaxy S25 Ultra Redesign: Did the One UI Team Miss the Memo?

by | Sep 16, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Samsung is giving the Galaxy S25 Ultra a major redesign. It is moving away from the thick, heavy, and boxy frame of the S24 Ultra in favor of a sleeker, rounded body. This change delivers a noticeably slimmer and lighter feel while retaining the premium look the series is known for. However, One UI 7.0 seems to receive a UI overhaul that doesn’t perfectly align with the S25 Ultra’s fresh new design.

Samsung’s hardware and software teams seem to be playing different tunes

Over the past few weeks, we have seen plenty of leaked 2D and 3D renders of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The upcoming Samsung flagship sports a sleek new design. It is allegedly the thinnest and lightest phone in its segment. Compared to the S24 Ultra’s look and feel, it looks a league apart. The Korean firm has completely rewritten its Ultra flagship’s design. Based on user comments, most people are liking the new look.

However, Samsung’s software team doesn’t seem to be in sync with the hardware changes. One UI 7.0 has similarly big UI changes in the pipeline. The company aims to deliver an unprecedented Galaxy experience. While that’s good news, leaks suggest the company has swapped the rounded rectangular UI elements for pill-shaped ones, which seems to clash with the S25 Ultra’s new rounded design.

As you can see in the left image above, the curvature of the top Quick Panel boxes on One UI 6.1 matches the S25 Ultra’s new design. However, Samsung is said to be switching to the pill-shaped design (on the right) with One UI 7.0. While it isn’t a bad design choice, it’s odd that the company is moving away from rounded rectangles just as it makes its Ultra flagship rounded. Expect more Galaxy S25 and One UI 7.0 leaks in the coming weeks. Our Galaxy S25 mystery box sign-ups are now open if you plan to buy the phone.
