Samsung may finally introduce car crash detection on its smartphones, starting with the Galaxy S25 series. Leaked internal files suggest the upcoming flagships will include a car crash detection sensor. Unless restricted by software, these devices should be capable of detecting and automatically reporting car accidents.
Galaxy S25 phones could finally bring car crash detection
Car crash detection is a useful safety feature for phones. It uses various sensors to detect a potential car accident and automatically place calls to emergency services. Many Android phones and iPhones boast this feature, but Samsung Galaxy devices have always lacked it. That could change with the introduction of the Galaxy S25 series next month.
Internal files spotted by Android Authority reveal the Galaxy S25 Ultra features a car crash sensor. This doesn’t necessarily mean Samsung will offer this function, though. As the publication reports, the Galaxy S24 Ultra and many recent foldables also come equipped with this sensor — it is a virtual (composite) sensor that relies on several underlying physical sensors to detect car crashes.
However, Samsung has yet to activate the software required for car crash detection on any device. References to a toggle to enable the car crash sensor have been found in One UI builds as far back as One UI 5.1.1, but the functionality remains absent. Whether the Galaxy S25 Ultra will finally introduce this feature or if it’s just another unrealized prospect is still uncertain.
The Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra launch on January 22, 2025. Well, Samsung has yet to officially announce the launch date but there have been plenty of leaks pointing to it. The big Unpacked event in San Jose, USA could also bring the Galaxy S25 Slim, a pair of smart glasses, and the Galaxy Ring 2. It’s unclear if all of these devices will go on sale after the event or if Samsung will delay some.
