Galaxy S25 Ultra gets 50MP Ultrawide Camera, S25 & S25+ Miss Out: Rumor

New evidence confirms the rumors about the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera specs. Samsung is upgrading only the ultrawide camera, leaving the rest unchanged from the S24 Ultra. The Galaxy S25 and S25+ will seemingly miss out on the new ultrawide sensor.

Galaxy S25 Ultra camera specs confirmed through internal files

Leaks suggest Samsung will introduce a new 50MP ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It replaces an aging 12MP unit. The same has been confirmed through leaked internal files detailing the upcoming flagship’s key specs. Spotted by noted code sleuth @AssembleDebug, the sensor in question is Samsung’s ISOCELL JN3.

Unfortunately, the Galaxy S25 and S25+ may miss out on this upgrade. The same source suggests these two devices will reuse the Sony IMX564 12MP ultrawide sensor as the current models. Even the Galaxy S25 Slim is rumored to get a new ultrawide camera, but Samsung seemingly doesn’t bother upgrading the entire lineup.

That said, the company appears to be switching to a new selfie camera for the Galaxy S25 and S25+. If the leaked files reflect correct data, the devices use Sony’s IMX874 for their front-facing cameras. The Japanese firm currently does not have an image sensor by that name, so it might be a new sensor (resolution not known). The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s selfie camera, meanwhile, still has the 12MP ISOCELL 3LU sensor.

Coming to the 3x zoom camera, another sensor that Galaxy fans want Samsung to improve, things seemingly remain unchanged. The Galaxy S25 Ultra still uses the Sony IMX754 while the S25 and S25+ use the ISOCELL 3K1. Both are 10MP cameras.

Last but not least, Samsung isn’t upgrading the primary cameras on the Galaxy S25 series. The Ultra has a 200MP ISOCELL HP2 camera, while the other two use a 50MP ISOCELL GN3 sensor. The new flagships should still offer enhanced image quality thanks to advanced AI-powered software processing. The devices are expected to launch on January 22, 2025.
