Last month, Samsung introduced ALoP (All Lenses on Prism), a groundbreaking telephoto camera technology designed to make smartphone cameras slimmer. It rearranges the lenses into a more compact configuration, significantly reducing the size of camera modules. The upcoming Galaxy S25 Slim could be the first phone to feature this new system.
Galaxy S25 Slim could debut Samsung’s ALoP telephoto camera technology
Conventional folded telephoto cameras, like the ones used on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, have the lenses placed vertically between the prism and sensor. Since the lens diameter stands vertically within a module, larger lenses increase the module’s thickness, making the phone or the camera bump thicker. This limited the camera brightness as smaller lenses capture less light.
Samsung’s ALoP technology fundamentally changes this system. It stacks the lenses horizontally upon the prism, so increasing the lens size doesn’t add to the camera module’s thickness. This also reduces the space between the different components within the module, making it more compact. This innovative solution paves the way for a new generation of slim smartphones.
The journey could begin with the Galaxy S25 Slim early next year. According to X tipster @Jukanlosreve, the upcoming slim flagship from Samsung is “confirmed” to feature the ALoP telephoto camera technology. It is the only model in the lineup to adopt the new solution. All others, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra, still employ the conventional system.
This may be one of the many ways Samsung has made the Galaxy S25 Slim thinner than the rest of the lineup. Rumors say the company plans to launch all four models next month, potentially on January 22, 2025.
