Samsung has released a new update for the Galaxy S25 series, introducing the March security patch. The update appears to bring no additional changes or new features. It is currently available in South Korea but should soon arrive in other regions, including the US.
Galaxy S25 gets the March update with no new features
Galaxy S25 users in Samsung’s home country are receiving a new update with the firmware build number S938NKSU1AYC3. The presence of “U” in the build number suggests it includes more than just this month’s security fixes, hinting at additional changes. The OTA package for the Ultra model weighs 577MB, further indicating a more substantial update.
However, the changelog doesn’t mention anything more. Perhaps Samsung is pushing some minor bug fixes and stability enhancements alongside this month’s 50+ vulnerability patches. The March SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy family patches 11 critical Android OS flaws and many other vulnerabilities.
Unfortunately, this means the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra still lack some functional enhancements Samsung rolled out to older models with recent One UI 7 beta updates. Media player support for Live Notifications in the status bar and improved charging animation are some of the upgrades already available on the Galaxy S24, Fold 6, and others.
Samsung might roll out these changes to the Galaxy S25 series in April when it releases the stable One UI 7 update for older models. Ideally, new features should have first rolled out to the latest model, but Samsung has been all over the place with One UI 7. Hopefully, the company will streamline its update process and get One UI development back on track starting next month.
As far as the March SMR is concerned, it will reach the Galaxy S25 series worldwide in the coming days. Samsung will also update more Galaxy phones to the latest security patch before shifting its focus to One UI 7.
