Galaxy S25’s First Big Update is Just Around the Corner

While Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7 out of the box, it looked like the update wasn’t ready for prime time. Sure enough, recent One UI 7 beta builds for older Galaxy models have introduced additional features and enhancements. Those enhancements will soon make their way to Samsung’s latest flagships via a software update. This upcoming firmware was recently spotted on Samsung’s servers, hinting at an imminent release.

Samsung is preparing a big feature update for the Galaxy S25 series

A new One UI 7 firmware build (AYD1) for the Galaxy S25 lineup recently appeared on Samsung’s servers. This looks like the “big update” we all are waiting for. While Samsung could push a newer build, this is proof that the company is gearing up for its release. The update could arrive anytime now, bundling the April security patch alongside the new features and enhancements.

As spotted by X user @theonecid, the full build number for the Canadian version of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is S938WVLU2AYD1. If you look closely, you’ll notice that “AYD1” is preceded by “U2” in the build number. “U” confirms a feature update not limited to security patches, while “2” indicates a bootloader upgrade. This would be the first bootloader revision for the Galaxy S25.

For the uninitiated, new Galaxy phones ship with bootloader version 1, indicated by the fifth-to-last character in the build number. Once in a while, Samsung upgrades the device to bootloader version 2,3, 4, and so on. These upgrades enhance system stability and security. Once you install an update containing a new bootloader version, you can not roll back to the previous firmware build due to security policies.

Samsung has yet to reveal when this Galaxy S25 update will go official. At this point, we only know that the stable One UI 7 update will be available for the Galaxy S24 and other phones starting April 7. With the Galaxy S25’s new firmware already appearing on Samsung’s servers, an official rollout could be just around the corner. Galaxy S25 users should keep an eye out for software update notifications in the coming days.
