Samsung is rolling out a major new update to the Galaxy S24 series. It brings AI features and other enhancements from One UI 6.1.1. If you pair the new flagships with recent Galaxy Buds models like the Galaxy Buds 3 or 3 Pro, this update also unlocks UHQ (ultra-high-quality) audio. It enables 96kHz audio sample rates for a near-original sound experience.
Samsung enables UHQ audio on Galaxy Buds 3 Pro with Galaxy S24 update
The Galaxy Buds 3, 3 Pro, and Buds FE support ultra-high-quality audio up to 24bit/96kHz. This high-fidelity sound lets you hear the intricate details in a music track, just as the artist intended when recording it. However, the feature has a software limitation. It only works on select flagship Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1.1 or higher (there is no higher version currently).
Since the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 shipped with One UI 6.1.1 out of the box, pairing the new foldables with a compatible Galaxy Buds enabled UHQ audio. The newly released One UI 6.1.1-based update for the Galaxy S24 trio unlocks it too. Once updated, you will find a new toggle in sound quality settings. Enable the UHQ toggle for richer and more immersive audio.
Samsung says UHQ audio increases battery consumption, though it shouldn’t massively impact the battery life of your phone or buds. The company also warns of a potential lag in audio output on some apps. Hopefully, the delay will be minimal or negligible. This feature is also supported on the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series.
However, it will be available only after the One UI 6.1.1 update. Samsung recently started rolling out the big update to the Galaxy S24 series. It is currently limited to South Korea. A global rollout should follow in the coming days. The company should soon expand the rollout to other eligible models. Some AI features may not be available on older devices due to hardware limitations.
