Galaxy S24 Ultra to Miss Out on Now Brief? Samsung Hints at Hardware Limitations

by | Feb 13, 2025 | Galaxy S, News, One UI

A Samsung executive recently revealed that the company spent nearly three years perfecting One UI 7.0. It wanted to redefine the Galaxy experience, delaying the big update. In the same interview, the executive suggested that some advanced AI features from the Galaxy S25 series might not make it to older models, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Notably, Now Brief could remain exclusive to the latest flagships.

Samsung may not roll out Now Brief to Galaxy S24 and older models

Now Brief is sort of a personalized information hub for Galaxy users. You get tailored information from various apps depending on the time of day and your activities. These details appear in a pill-shaped bar at the bottom of your lock screen, and you can expand it without unlocking the device. If you want additional context or information, simply tap the pill to see more.

This feature is powered by Samsung’s Personal Data Engine. It utilizes advanced machine learning algorithms to analyze user behavior and preferences, delivering a personalized experience that dynamically adjusts to individual needs. Sally Hyesoon Jeong, EVP and Head of the Framework R&D Team at Samsung’s mobile experience division, suggests older Galaxy phones can’t process this data.

“AI features that utilize on-device processing, such as a personal data engine, require advanced chipsets and hardware like those in the Galaxy S25 Series with Snapdragon 8 Elite,” she said in an interview. Her comments suggest Now Brief won’t be available on the likes of the Galaxy S24 series with the One UI 7.0 update. Sure enough, the beta version lacks it, even though the phones have Now Bar.

That said, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor was also made for the AI era. Moreover, Samsung promises seven years of updates for the 2024 flagships. It’s no use if the phone can’t even run features launched a year later. The Galaxy S24 series will receive a new One UI 7.0 beta update next week. We will let you know if it brings Now Brief.
