Galaxy S24 Ultra Crushes iPhone 16 Pro Max in Battery Life Test

by | Sep 21, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Apple recently launched the iPhone 16 series, claiming a “big boost” in battery life. The Pro Max was hailed as having “the best battery life ever” on an iPhone. Yet the new models failed miserably against Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Galaxy comfortably outlasted all iPhone 16s, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro Max in a battery test.

Galaxy S24 Ultra offers better battery life than iPhone 16 Pro Max

Popular YouTuber Arun Maini of Mrwhosetheboss recently conducted an extensive battery test of seven smartphones. He pitted the Galaxy S24 Ultra against, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16+, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The same set of tasks was executed on all phones to ensure a fair and consistent testing process.

After an hour of using a workout app, the iPhone 15 Pro Max suffered the worst drop. Its battery level dropped to 90%, while the iPhone 16 led the pack with 96% charge still left. However, as Arun pointed out, the software of a phone doesn’t always report the battery level accurately. The only thing that makes real sense is how long the phone lasts before the battery runs out completely.

Arun’s test then involved an hour of messaging on Slack, followed by an Instagram session. He then used app stores for an hour, and they went to YouTube. At the end of the YouTube session — five hours since the test began — the Galaxy S24 Ultra had already gained a massive lead. It had a 70% charge left. The iPhone 16 Pro Max was the lead iPhone with 58% battery.

This was followed by continuous 4K video recording for almost an hour. The Galaxy S24 Ultra maintained its lead through this task and continued doing so during the ChatGPT test. In the meantime, the iPhone 15 died down after 7 hours and 45 minutes on the clock. The Samsung flagship still had 45% of its battery juice intact, while the Phone 16 Pro Max had a 30% charge.

Samsung’s latest flagship ran over an hour more than iPhones

The phones were subjected to heavier gaming, and it took a toll on them. The iPhone 16 and 16 Pro drained out completely after 8 hours and 19 minutes. The iPhone 16+ ran for 8 hours and 45 minutes and the 15 Pro Max for another 50 minutes. Apple’s supposed battery king, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, gave out with 11 hours and 22 minutes on the clock.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra, on the other hand, went on for over an hour more. Its battery ran out of juice after 12 hours and 31 minutes of continuous screentime pushing the phone to its limits. Calling it an amazing battery life would be an understatement. Samsung did really well, and we expect it to improve things with the Galaxy S25 Ultra next year. You can watch the full video below.
