Samsung recently released the One UI 7.0 Beta 3 update for the Galaxy S24 series, bundling the January 2025 security patch. The latest security update is now rolling out to non-beta users as well. Galaxy S24 units running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 are receiving the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) with over 50 vulnerability fixes.

Samsung’s first security update of the new year contains 51 patches. These include 22 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items, which are Galaxy-specific patches not applicable to Android products from other brands. The remaining 29 patches concern Android OS flaws that also exist on non-Samsung devices.

This month, Samsung addressed a bunch of high-severity vulnerabilities across several Galaxy components. Some flaws allowed attackers to cause memory corruption, execute the fastboot command, access data across multiple user profiles, or execute arbitrary code with privilege. The December security update also patches some less severe vulnerabilities.

As for the Android OS patches, which come from Google or partner vendors, five are classified as “critical” and the rest as “high” severity issues. Some of these vulnerabilities exist on several Galaxy phones, while others aren’t as widespread. As mentioned above, phones from other companies are also vulnerable to these Android OS flaws.

Samsung is rolling out these 50-odd security fixes to the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. Users participating in the One UI 7.0 beta program received the new SMR with the third beta update. Non-beta users are now picking up a fresh update containing the new patches. The update is currently available in South Korea where it comes with the build version AXL1.

Samsung will soon roll out the December SMR to the Galaxy S24 trio globally. The company will also expand the update to more devices. It is expected to release the stable One UI 7.0 or 7.1 update to the 2024 flagships later this month and gradually cover more phones in the coming months.
