After the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung is rolling out the February security update to the Galaxy S23 lineup. The 2023 flagships are also initially receiving the latest security patch in Samsung’s home country, South Korea. Both lineups should soon pick up this update in the rest of the world. Meanwhile, the company has yet to say anything about the stable One UI 7.0 update for these devices.
Galaxy S23 series joins Samsung’s February security update party
A few hours ago, Samsung released the February security patch, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), for the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra in South Korea. The same update is now available for the 2023 flagship lineup. It comes with the firmware build number S91*NKSU5CYB1 and appears to contain Wi-Fi stability improvements alongside the latest security fixes.
Samsung recently revealed that the February SMR patches over 40 vulnerabilities, the bulk of which are Android OS flaws patched by Google. The Korean behemoth will soon push these fixes to the Galaxy S24 and S24 phones globally, before expanding the rollout to cover other eligible models. As usual, the update size may vary depending on your phone’s model and region.
While these monthly security releases are important to keep phones secure, most Galaxy users aren’t interested in these at the moment. All eyes are on Samsung’s One UI 7.0 update, which debuted with the Galaxy S25 series last month. The company is expected to roll out the new version to eligible older models starting this month, with the Galaxy S24 series likely to receive it ahead of others.
Hopefully, Samsung won’t keep users waiting for much longer. It is already behind the schedule by almost four months. We understand that One UI 7.0 isn’t an update like any others. Samsung has completely overhauled the look and feel of its custom Android skin, with tons of new customizations and AI enhancements. But the excitement fades if users have to wait too long. Stick around for more.
