It has been just over three months since Samsung launched its revolutionary smart ring, and the company may already have a second-gen model in the pipeline. Presumably called the Galaxy Ring 2, the new ring is expected to be thinner and packed with even more features. It may also offer a longer battery life.
Samsung is already working on the Galaxy Ring 2
The Galaxy Ring debuted alongside the new Samsung foldables in July. It comes in nine sizes, all offering the same set of features but a different battery capacity (larger models have a bigger battery). There have been rumors about the company potentially releasing the ring in two additional sizes (larger sizes), but it hasn’t said anything. In the meantime, the firm gradually expanded the ring’s availability to more markets.
Now, a tipster has hinted at a nearing launch of the Galaxy Ring 2. The new model is “around the corner,” @TheGalox_ posted on X. They say Samsung will make the ring thinner while still offering a longer battery life. Since a thinner profile may not allow it to pack bigger batteries, the company must have achieved this by other means, potentially software optimization. It might have learned a lot from the first-gen ring. The upcoming ring is also said to boast more features.
The tipster didn’t elaborate further, but we hope Samsung introduces NFC to its smart ring. It’d make contactless payments much easier. The lack of NFC support is one of the biggest drawbacks of the first-gen model. The company must be working on new health and fitness features too. If the Galaxy Ring 2 is indeed nearing its launch, expect more leaks in the coming weeks. We recently saw a Samsung patent for a resizable smart ring, but it may not be coming anytime soon if at all. We’ll keep you posted.
