Last week, a rumor surfaced that Samsung is preparing to bring Galaxy AI to mid-range devices. The company has officially announced the expansion today, with Circle to Search coming to select A series phones and FE tablets. The rollout begins later this month, though we don’t have a precise release date.
Mid-range Galaxy A series phones and FE tablets get Galaxy AI
Circle to Search is an AI-powered Google feature that lets you quickly search for anything on the screen. On supported devices, you long-press the home button to activate the tool. You can then select any object or text on the screen to run a Google search for it. It’s also soon gaining the ability to share the selected portion with others, and potentially a music search function.
After debuting it on the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung expanded Circle to Search to millions of Galaxy devices with the One UI 6.1 update. However, the tool was always limited to high-end phones and tablets. Mid-range devices didn’t get Galaxy AI, so no Circle to Search. Samsung is changing that soon, bringing the AI tool to more affordable products.
Samsung says the Google function will roll out to the Galaxy A55, Galaxy A54, Galaxy A35, and Galaxy A34 later this month. Yes, even 2023 mid-range phones are getting it. Additionally, Circle to Search will come to the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+. Samsung hasn’t specified a rollout timeline for the two S Pen-wielding Fan Edition tablets, though.
“These updates unlock new possibilities for the Galaxy A series and Galaxy Tab S9 FE series and reinforce our commitment to providing cutting-edge technology for more Galaxy users,” said TM Roh, head of Samsung’s mobile business. “We are dedicated to bringing best-in-class AI technology to a broader audience.” It remains to be seen if the company will bring more Galaxy AI features to mid-range devices.
