Samsung has begun work on its next premium mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A56. Expected to launch in the first half of 2025, the device recently surfaced on the IMEI database, suggesting ongoing development. While specs are still under wraps, the phone should bring some upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy A55.
Galaxy A56 spotted on IMEI database months ahead of launch
Samsung’s upcoming device is listed on the IMEI database with the model number SM-A566B/DS. Spotted by Smartprix, the listing reveals no other information. The device follows Samsung’s regular model numbering pattern — the Galaxy A55 is SM-A556B. As expected, the phone is 5G-ready, and comes with dual-SIM support in some regions (DS stands for dual-SIM variant).
The Galaxy A56 should be powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 1580 processor. The chipset recently appeared in Geekbench’s database with the codename S5E8855. It is quite powerful and should bring notable performance upgrades. The Exynos 1580 features newer CPU cores from ARM and an AMD-powered custom GPU from Samsung, at least according to Geekbench.
We are looking at four Cortex-A720 CPU cores, one running at 2.91GHz and three at 2.6GHz. The four Cortex-A520 CPU cores are clocked at 1.95GHz. Samsung should equip the chipset with its next-gen mid-range Xclipse GPU based on the AMD RDNA2 architecture. We are still awaiting information on the GPU speed. It’s unclear whether the company will fabricate the chip on a 4nm or a 3nm process node.
The Galaxy A56 should run Android 15-based One UI 7.1 out of the box and come with advanced AI features. Rumors suggest Samsung will offer six years of Android OS and security updates to its next-gen mid-range devices. If true, the device will get updates up to Android 21. You can also expect a premium design with a glass back and metal frame and an IP67 or IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Stay tuned for more Galaxy A56 leaks.
