Samsung’s upcoming premium mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A56, might see a significant upgrade in charging speed. A recent regulatory certification suggests the device could support 45W fast wired charging, a notable improvement over the 25W limit of its predecessor.
Galaxy A56 might support 45W charging
A Chinese certification agency (3C) recently listed the domestic version of Samsung’s Galaxy A56 on its official website. The device appeared with the model number SM-A5560, which is the Chinese version. First spotted by 91Mobiles, the listing shows four different charging profiles for the phone.
The Galaxy A56 supports 5V/2A (10W), 9V/1.67A (15W), 9V/2.77A (25W), and 10V/4.5A (45W). As said earlier, Samsung’s Galaxy A55 tops out at 25W wired charging, making this a huge upgrade for the lineup. While Chinese brands have pushed charging speeds beyond 200W, Samsung has taken a more conservative approach.
The most advanced flagships, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, cap out at 45W. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 only boast 25W charging. The Korean firm prioritizes battery longevity and safety over competing in the ultra-fast charging race. While 25W is a bit slow, 45W does feel like a sweet spot.
To that end, Samsung has upgraded a few mid-range models to 45W charging this year, including the Galaxy F55 and Galaxy M55s (these phones aren’t sold globally). It appears the company is also finally offering faster charging on its A series premium mid-range devices, starting with the Galaxy A56 next year.
While this certification is superficially for the Chinese version of the Galaxy A56, we hope Samsung offers 45W charging on the new phone globally. The device is expected around March 2025, with the Galaxy A36 likely accompanying it. Both models should feature a redesigned camera array and some hardware upgrades. It’s unclear if the Galaxy A36 will support similar charging profiles too.
